The event was held at the Witold Lutosławski S1 Concert Studio in Warsaw. The scholarship recipients – Łukasz Mikołajczyk and Gracjan Szymczak – were accompanied by the Altra Volta string quartet. The performance of each of the two Chopin piano concertos was recorded and released as a double album.
The venue for the concert and its recording was not chosen randomly.
The Witold Lutosławski S1 Concert Studio is a unique recording studio in this part of Europe. It is second only to Warsaw’s National Philharmonic in size. Thanks to its wonderful acoustic properties – the studio has 2 seconds of natural reverb – it is perfect for recording classical music, orchestras, choirs and chamber ensembles. Due to its sheer size – 10,000 m3 (including 330 m2 of stage area) and its 410 seats, the studio is also perfect for concerts and theatrical and musical spectacles.
